Course Description

Processes are the means by which organisations conduct their business. Quality processes assure the product and services, training processes enhance people skills, information technology processes protect data.  Auditing processes requires additional skills because the auditors are auditing across departmental and sometimes divisional boundaries and from the top to bottom of the organisation. Process audits can reveal more about the effectiveness of the business than almost any other technique.

This two day intensive course is designed for experienced auditors who have the capability to audit holistically and who can identify the potential for business process improvement. It is highly interactive and practical with our experienced trainers acting as the process auditees in the case study role plays.

As a post course service we offer an additional practical process audit at delegate’s workplace (extra to the course cost).

Who should attend?

The course is designed for experienced auditors who wish to develop their auditing skills to a higher level and breadth.

It is also suitable for management with auditing skills who want to identify areas of the processes where tangible improvements in costs, efficiency and effectiveness can be made.

Benefits to Your Business

The main benefits to the business from this approach are:

  • Universal application of process auditing techniques to any management system including quality (ISO 9001) Environment (ISO 14001), health and safety (ISO 18001) information systems (BS 7799).
  • Your auditors can play a significant role in assessing and developing the business processes to ensure they reflect your business and are operating at maximum effectiveness
  • You will identify the value adding processes and those which do not add value. From this you can seek to develop your process chain so that redundant activities and processes are eliminated.
  • The outcome of process audits can be significant cost savings by sealing the “process leakages”

Course Structure

The course comprises a number of interrelated modules which build on each other. The process audit practice is based on real company case studies with which we have been involved and which have resulted in significant improvements and cost savings. The modules include:

  • Understanding the five main process inputs and two main outputs and their interrelationships
  • How to map process activities and the means for monitoring and measuring these (including activity based costing)
  • How departmental procedures contribute to the business processes
  • How to identify process constraints (including departmental isolationism) and the resultant affect on process effectiveness
  • The techniques for auditing across departmental boundaries using forward and trace-back techniques
  • How to place the audit findings in the context of business risk and cost – benefit
  • How to produce and executive report of the audit findings
